PURPOSE: DIVINE PROVISION & HUMAN PREPARATION

In the journey of faith and destiny, many believers rightly trust in the provision of God. Scripture assures us that God is able to meet our needs and orchestrate opportunities for our advancement. However, a common misunderstanding arises when people assume that divine provision eliminates the need for personal development, diligence, and preparation.

The Bible teaches otherwise.

Jesus once gave a remarkable instruction to Peter regarding the payment of the temple tax. He said:

> “Go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.” (Matthew 17:27)

This miracle reveals an important spiritual principle. The provision was already ordained—there was a coin in the mouth of a fish. Yet Peter still had a role to play. He had to go to the sea, cast the hook, catch the fish, and retrieve the coin. The miracle did not remove the need for participation, wisdom, and action.

In the same way, many people pray for opportunities, breakthroughs, and divine provision, yet neglect the process of developing themselves. They assume that when God decides to bless them, everything will fall into place automatically. But often, what God has prepared still requires knowledge, skill, discipline, and readiness to access it.

The book of Proverbs emphasizes the value of wisdom and preparation. Proverbs 4:7 declares, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom.” Likewise, Ecclesiastes 10:10 teaches that when the axe is dull, greater strength is required, but skill and wisdom make the work effective. These passages remind us that preparation reduces struggle and increases effectiveness.

God may ordain a provision, but a lack of development can prevent a person from accessing what God has already made available. Opportunities often appear in forms that require competence, understanding, and readiness. Without these, many people stand near their provision yet remain unable to access it.

This is why personal development is not merely a secular concept; it is a spiritual responsibility. A believer who desires to walk effectively in divine purpose must cultivate knowledge, grow in wisdom, and develop practical skills. Preparation positions a person to recognize and properly handle the opportunities that God brings their way.

Therefore, give attention to developing yourself. Invest in knowledge. Grow in skill. Strengthen your capacity. For even if your coin is already in the mouth of the fish, you will still need the wisdom and skill to catch it from the river.

Divine provision does not cancel human responsibility. Rather, preparation is often the very tool God uses to bring His provision into your hands.
